CMW 2017: Surf Dads at The Great Hall

Their Twitter admission that “we are so bad at this” proved prescient for this trip; a short while into their CMW set, Surf Dads confessed that they’d left their merch in Regina. They also later confided that none of them had ever surfed.

A pity the goods weren’t on hand—there likely would have been a few purchases after their performance. It was the sort of reliable, peppy outing that might conjure notions of a rowdier—and somehow more maudlin—version of Two Hours Traffic.

The vid above—them playing a handful of tunes at a café in the Czech Republic—is a representative sampling.

Two Hours Traffic – “Magic”

They may be mixing motifs, but at least they’re sticking to a theme.

Two Hours Traffic—fresh from a stint at the Medieval Faire—get a gig at an outdoor wizarding school that appears to have just two pupils. The whole gang then runs off to join a LARP adventure with feuding factions (but plenty of monsters to go around).

Will boyhood camaraderie prevail over petty squabbles?

“Magic” comes from Two Hours Traffic’s final album, Foolish Blood.
