Low – “Santa’s Coming Over”

Leave it to Low to make Christmas creepy.

Everything about this is unsettling. Half these kids look like they’re about to cry. They’re probably listening to the song as they’re being filmed.

She & Him – “Christmas Memories”

There’s the lonely, diminutive tree, but that definitely isn’t Charlie Brown throwing it into the back of a pickup truck. Looks like it’s a trip to the dump, rather than the school pageant, for this fir.

It’s probably for the best—as we see, some trees are too dangerous to be allowed inside the home.

“Christmas Memories” comes from She & Him’s new Christmas Party album.

The Raveonettes – “The Christmas Song”

Well, this looks like a pretty dull Christmas ’til The Raveonettes start talking holiday records and… playing with guns? Did Santa deliver that firearm? Will there be a Christmas murder?

In 2008, The Raveonettes dropped their Wishing You A Rave Christmas EP, but this song, which had been released prior, was not included on it. “The Christmas Song” was originally advertised as “A new holiday classic.” It has yet to reach “Jingle Bells” status.

Aidan Moffat & The Best-Ofs – “Plastic Mistletoe”

Looks like Aidan Moffat spent this particular Christmas at the pub, staring into a half-empty pint, and lucky us, we’re along for the heartbreaking ride. Remember, you’re never truly alone when you’re in the company of a first-rate glass of beer.

“Plastic Mistletoe” was included on the 5 Songs EP that came with the deluxe board game edition (yes, board game edition) of 2009’s How To Get To Heaven From Scotland.

Harvey Danger – “Sometimes You Have to Work On Christmas (Sometimes)”

The Christmas season isn’t joy and merrymaking for everyone. Who do you think delivers your pizza, sells you milk at the convenience store and takes your ticket at the movies on Christmas day? Santa’s elves? Robots? (Well, it’ll be robots some day).

At least most workplaces that are open on the 25th look the other way if you’ve got a bottle of vodka stashed under the counter. Impromptu strip-a-thons like we see here, however, are not typically tolerated. Leave your pants on. Even if a dance party erupts.

Harvey Danger released “Sometimes You Have to Work On Christmas (Sometimes)” in 2004, on an EP of the same name.

The Crookes – “You’re Just Like Christmas”

Too soon?

Even Santa’s still on his Santa Cruz (get it?) vacation. He’s busy prepping for his one working night of the year, though—pushups… sprints… wrestling… boozing? Maybe it’s a good thing Rudolph drives that sleigh.

The Crookes released their third album, Soapbox, earlier this year.

Final Clearance – “Let’s Have An Indie Rock Christmas”

Sometimes Christmas is sad, but Final Clearance would remind us that Yuletide despair is a fine excuse for putting on a checkered shirt and revisiting your Death Cab For Cutie albums.

“Let’s Have An Indie Rock Christmas” is a recently-released single. Final Clearance also have a couple of albums—check them out *here.*
