Perhaps our most intriguing find at this year’s NXNE. They’re as precise and moody as The Nein, and singer Dara Kiely reminds us of a young and very angst-filled Julian Casablancas. A lot more shouting here than you’d hear from the Strokes, of course (check out a full set above).
Every song is an experiment for these Dubliners. Structure is a luxury. They’re more interested in producing and repeating a unique riff than they are in crafting things like choruses. Kiely’s a perfect fit for this arrangement—he can spew nearly endless strings of lyrics (he’s a bit like Gareth Campesinos!, as well, in that respect).
Girl Band (there are no girls in this band, by the way—what’s with this trend?) have thus far dropped a few singles and a live EP. There’s reportedly a full-length on the way later this year.
