Now this is how you make a Canadian debut: three straight nights headlining a historic CMW venue. Let us never question Dan Boeckner’s pluck.
Boeckner’s second band outing since the demise of Handsome Furs (and Wolf Parade) rests snugly in Furs territory, but a newfound aggressiveness and technological heft manage to set Operators a tad apart from their predecessors. More synthesizer than guitar happening, here; not far off from T. Raumschmiere. Check out an audience-filmed clip, up above, for a taste.
Bonus round: Saturday night’s attendees were treated to a blazing cover of Wolf Parade’s “Shine A Light” (word has it “This Heart’s On Fire” showed up on another night), with Japandroids guest starring.
Judging by the sparse crowds that showed up at CMW’s most-hyped sets, the Silver Dollar was the place to be, all weekend.
