The beauty of a live performance is the emotion the artist conveys that may or may not be apparent on their album. In Alice Smith’s case, her ‘70s soul-singer voice is full of feeling on her second release, She (Rainwater), but what you miss is the genuine pain that is evident on Smith’s face during her Grand Street Bakery performance.
On a side note: while watching this video, it occurred to me that there’s a whole lot of denim in that bakery. For those like me who aren’t in the know, it’s a vintage clothing store. That explains things.
