The Notwist – “Kong”

Certainly a sprightlier Notwist than we’re accustomed to (it seems to be a trend this week), but perhaps a welcome break from the orchestral heft of their last album (2008’s The Devil, You + Me).

Thematically, this is reminiscent of The Flaming Lips’ “Waitin’ For A Superman,” but here we’re waiting to be saved from a flood by King Kong (he cares; who knew?). It’s taken from The Notwist’s upcoming Close To The Glass album and, says Sub Pop, is a “true story about a young Markus [Acher, singer] and his family trapped in their home by a flood, dreaming as hard as he could about being saved by superheroes as the water rose around them.” He was apparently rescued.
