While cleaning up the bar (and around her incredibly unhelpful band mates who obviously feel that sleep is more important than cleanliness), Valerie June sings that she’s worked like a man all of her life and tells the Lord himself “you know that I am ready for a sugar daddy”.
Something tells me that this self-taught musician doesn’t need any sort of sugar daddy. In fact, if she’s not careful, her continued success could accidentally make her a target for those wanting sugar mamas. Be on alert, Ms. June!
“Workin’ Woman Blues” is the opening track from Valerie’s third album, Pushin’ Against A Stone (Concord Records), released this past summer.
