At one point in your elementary school career, you probably had to do a lip synch of some sort. A good friend of mine recently admitted that for her, it was to “Expression” in grade seven.
The image of a 12-year old version of my friend rapping along to Salt-N-Pepa was, in a word, priceless. Once I got past it, I pulled out my tape deck, popped in the cassette and realized that the song still holds up. The ladies have flow, the beat will have anyone listening doing the Roger Rabbit and the message: be yourself.
“Expression” is from their 1990 album Black’s Magic (London Records). It’s a shame that we have to keep mining the old school for tracks like this.
