Wake Owl – Wild Country

Is it still possible for a band to make a career out of a single song? Wake Owl could probably do it with this record’s title track. It’s exactly what a Josh Radnor or a Zach Braff needs for the climax of one of their hip romance films.

This whole EP is so nice, in fact, they released it twice. Colyn Cameron (songwriter) dropped the collection, pay-what-you-can style, on his bandcamp page in 2011; it’s getting the reissue treatment now, post-record deal.

If any music could, Wild Country does nearly sound like the work of a dude who spent two years studying organic agriculture (Cameron did, in England). It’s a cool breeze, blowing through a field where folk-band instruments grow—intimate, if you’re standing in the middle, lavish, looking in from the edge, and not above kicking up some dust.

Check out “Gold,” from the album, down below. It was apparently on Grey’s Anatomy a few weeks ago.
