After a five-hour showcase, the pressure’s on for the last band to be energetic enough to engage a weary crowd. I had faith that The Dears would get everyone moving and cheering after standing all evening. I love it when I’m right.
Murray Lightburn promised to get through the show “in a dignified manner,” which included swigging directly out of a wine bottle (or was it vodka? Either way, it wasn’t water), asking everyone to sing along and periodically quoting Toronto’s Kardinal Offishall. Kardie quotes are the hallmark of a dignified event.
Despite a minor technical difficulty with a mic stand at the beginning of the set, the energy stayed high and patrons left happy. This CMW show’s going to be a tough one to beat.
