Science fact: everyone who grew up in the ’80s has a tiny, misplaced compartment in their brain where that period’s cartoon theme songs reside. Those Saturday morning intros (Kidd Video, anyone?) were an early conduit into the world of popular music for that not-quite-Gen-X generation.
We’ll save the “Cartoons were so much better back then” diatribe for another day, but after hearing a cut like this, let’s at least agree that the memories of those old songs are still present, lying dormant and waiting for a catalyst like Unknown Mortal Orchestra to drag them back to the surface. The tunes on their self-titled debut LP—“Thought Ballune” included—could themselves be theme songs to a modern, twisted animated series.
Psychedelic cupcakes—this is my kinda party.
