I like it when bands sing their name over and over again in a song. Being that “Death and The Maiden” is what I understand to be The Verlaines’ flagship song, it works. And, if Stephen Malkmus of Pavement fame did a cover of it, then it’s got to be solid.
But don’t let Mr. Malkmus be the beginning and end of this track. There are enough surprising song changes, chants and harbinger bunnies hopping around “Death and The Maiden” to make it more than worth your while.
P.S. Is this the same sitting room that “Doomsday” was filmed? Am I sensing a theme here, or do I just want to imagine them playing in a recognizable living room, a.k.a. my living room?
