GusGus – “Starlovers”

It takes a special band to make you feel uncomfortable with little more than dancing, smiling and pastries.

Every moment of “Starlovers”—from GusGus’ 1999 masterpiece, This Is Normal—will make your skin crawl. Daníel Ágúst Haraldsson couldn’t play a more disturbing rock star preacher (and his flock is equally creepy). The song was somewhat ambiguous on disc; here, its meaning (or one possible meaning, at least) becomes clear.

Cults take a lot of flak but it looks like it might be kinda fun to be in this one.
